Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement/Final Supplemental Management Plan for the Tortugas Ecological Reserve, 2000

The Tortugas are home to some of the healthiest and most diverse coral reefs in the Florida Keys. In 2000, Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary established the 151-square nautical mile Tortugas Ecological Reserve and expanded the boundary of the sanctuary to protect these special reefs. The creation of the Tortugas Ecological Reserve was accomplished through collaboration between the sanctuary, the State of Florida, the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council, the National Marine Fisheries Service, the Sanctuary Advisory Council, and members of the community.
