As a coral research operations specialist, Alison is responsible for investigating the range and severity of the stony coral tissue loss disease outbreak in the Florida Keys. Before joining the sanctuary in 2019, Alison was the southeast campaign manager at Oceana, where she successfully gained protection for more than 400 square miles of deep sea coral habitat in the Gulf of Mexico and advocated to preserve the Magnuson Stevens Act and the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Originally, Alison moved to the Florida Keys from Canada to work for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission managing the Reef Fish Visual Census survey program and participating in fish aggregation studies and coral restoration work. Alison enjoys anything ocean related including boating, swimming and diving. She is also a certified PADI divemaster and 50 ton USCG boat captain.
