Internships and Student Opportunities

The Florida Keys offer a unique environment to learn about a wide range of marine life and habitats. Several organizations throughout the area offer internships and other specific opportunities for students. Each organization has different qualifications, requirements, applications processes, and stipends. NOAA Office of Education Student Opportunities
NOAA offers several internships, scholarships, and fellowship programs to qualified undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students interested in marine and atmospheric sciences.

Island Dolphin Care
The internship program at Island Dolphin Care provides a unique experience for students and young professionals to observe and assist with the sessions and marine science education programs at Island Dolphin Care. This is a volunteer (unpaid) position. A typical internship at Island Dolphin Care lasts between four and eight weeks.

Dolphin Research Center
The Dolphin Research Center offers internships for those looking to develop career skills and have the opportunity to learn how a marine mammal facility operates. Dolphin Research Center internships involve concentration in specific departments and normally last 16 to 18 weeks. Interns work 40 hours per week, spending four days per week in their internship’s department and one day providing support in other areas of daily operations.
