Vessel Operation Coordinator
Carey Jung joined the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary in July 2023 as Vessel Operation Coordinator in Key West, following his retirement from the U.S. Coast Guard where he served 24 years of active-duty service. Jung’s last assignment was Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Station Key West, where he was responsible for 52 crewmen, seven vessels, and daily operations. Jung holds a 100-ton merchant mariner credential with an assistance tow endorsement, and his priorities are safety of life at sea, vessel readiness, and maritime stewardship. Jung and his family enjoy recreational boating in the Key West waterways and approaches, exploring the world class underwater snorkeling areas and sea life.
