Sanctuary names Patten as Volunteer of the Year

Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary named Stephen Patten, of Sugarloaf Key, as its Volunteer of the Year for the extraordinary amount of time he contributes. Patten’s demeanor, communication skills, and eagerness to learn make him an asset with the Team OCEAN on-the-water outreach program and as a docent at the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center, where he skillfully interprets the resources of the sanctuary and assists with daily operations.

In 2018, he also assumed a role as the Lower Keys citizen-at-large alternate on the Sanctuary Advisory Council. Patten will receive the award at the June 18 council meeting.
